"Call me when you're up for an even exchange", Pitbull, one of his songs...I gotta say, the context of the quote is all about relationships. Let's swap that out, and substitute "knowledge"...is knowledge transfer an even exchange? Nope. But...can it be? You give something, you get something.
That's the basis for insituting points systems....meaningless, vapid numbers to attempt to trick you into doing something of commercial value, for the entity that created the "game".
What if those points had real value? You could...cash them in? Get a check, paypal, or manilla envelope, stuffed with small, unmarked bills...wouldn't that be the ultimate points system? I think it would be. Trouble is...can you put a commercial value on friends? Naah...other actions, yes, by all means. Purchasing a product as a result of a friend's recommendation? You betcha.
So you're sharing knowledge, helping...you get ...real value, in return. Not just a smile, a rating, or a simple, "thank you"...but, cold hard cash. Sure that's not why most people would do it...but, the better question: would that STOP people from helping? I don't think so. Added to the basic drive of "doing the right thing..." I think it's a great idea.
