The first in their country, he'll be sworn in on November 11th. However, I won't be able to make it, my wife will be there, along with her sister & brother.
Not only is he the first ever Vice President in Maldives history, he's also the first person in the country to get an academic doctorate. From Stanford, no less - and two Master's degrees, also from Stanford.
Hmm...well, what can I say? He's an amazing guy.
My wife, Widhadh is very quiet, for a variety of reasons. First, given the history (not my place to share, but...) of politics in Maldives, she's naturally reluctant to share the spotlight - or bring our children into it. Which is a great thing, and something I agree with completely.
However...the marketer in me can't help but share the news with the world. For the first time, there is a peaceful transition of power from one to another in a country. Well done.
I'm an American, and we have a long history of peaceful transitions. However, over the past eight years, the US has constantly instigated more crime in more countries than any other entity. Perhaps we could learn something from those that are a bit different than us, eh?
