Now, let me start by saying clearly: I don't gamble. I do start companies, which is a form of gambling, however for the pure sport of it, I don't play poker, blackjack, etc. That being said, I have played a ton of card games for fun, including 500, hearts, spades, rummy and yes, five card draw poker.
Back in college, we'd play cards for hours on end. During the games, such as 500 or Hearts, and even Spades, you need to have a handle on who's better, how much, and whether or not they're pulling one out of their "you know what". So, when you sat down with your buddies that evening, you had to have a handle on their ticks, their movements, personality, euphemisms, expressions and their typical topics of chatter. By familiarizing yourself with how they comport themselves on an atypical card gaming session you have a much better handle on when they have a hand and when they don't.
Know, if you've seen the movie Rounders, you know what I'm talking about. Even if you don't gamble, as I do, who wants to lose the game on a regular basis? Not me. So I study my friends and try to pick out who the chump is for that round of cards. If I can't figure it out, which of course happens because nobody wins them all, then I know I'm the chump for the evening.
And then I simply kick back and try to have fun. Play the game, talk smack and enjoy the company. However, if I know who the chump is, they may be my friends but during the game, their lunch. Speaking of which...did you see the DOJ kick Yahoo in the balls this morning?
Morale of the story: Yahoo *thought* the DOJ was the chump in their threeway, however, as of this morning, the DOJ made it clear with a swift kick in Yahoo's privates. And, my former employer did NOT see it coming.
:) Who's the chump now?
