What flattery, searches and referrals for my name both shot up in the last 24 hours

Look: this blog is here so you can get a better idea of who I am. What I do. How I work, etc.

Yes, some people have said "I can't believe Goodrich would do that" over the email thing. However...most that I've seen didn't leave a name, didn't have their resume online...

....and, I'd be willing to bet lunch at any restaurant in the world that *none* of the people who made, essentially, a bunch of disparaging remarks on my character have ever met me. I have two kids, a wonderful wife...and, my father in law is a vice president of a country.

No joke...so, given that I have "more to lose" by acting the asshole than most of the fuckheads who said I lack ethics on TechCrunch...consider, carefully, who you are accusing, why and also walk through the whole story. FunAdvice has had more than a half dozen acquisition discussions in the last 18 months...most of those were initiated by a third party, a few were initiated by us and several of them were with some of the largest, most powerful media companies in the world.

Now...how many stories have you read about this? Zero? That's right! Why? Because those were serious discussions about business. This email I got I still wonder if it was a joke. I haven't taken the time to review the email headers...but, in all seriousness, I have to wonder if somebody else didn't forge the headers & send it to me, *knowing* that I'd react the way I did. Anybody who has worked with me in the past would have a pretty good idea of what I'd do, I'm that consistent in how I operate.

Past clients of our consulting business, FYI, include Photobucket, Maya's Mom, Yahoo, CafePress, Cost Plus World Market and other well known brands. A few dogs, too.

If you are still reading this: yes, I am slightly full of it. Everybody is. Those that don't, are so deep in their own stink that the smell has ceased to hold any meaning for them.

One final thought: read more, if you're curious, or go read some Machiavelli. It'll do far more for you than most things you can find online. And for the dozen+ people that wrote to me, privately, I'm glad you did it that way, so people on TC didn't think I was trying to organize an astroturfing. My business contacts (some, I consider friends) are all amazing people, and even some who I haven't done business with, I'd highly recommend to anyone, for their area of expertise, as they are all good people.

;) One final thought, if you're considering hiring us for consulting...we're retiring in 3 months, the clock is ticking. A few clients we're going to continue with for various reasons (mostly because we really like working with them, or there simply isn't a good reason not to). However by & large, I'm done. After July, the only way we'll consider any new consulting is if there is some strategic exchange we can work out...keep that in mind, if you're on the fence.
