Really, can you build meaningful relationships with thousands of people at once? No? Didn't think so...even if you get really nuts & say, "well, prostitutes can serve dozens of clients per day..." exactly. Even if you whore yourself out to the max, you *can't* develop thousands of relationships per day. It's impossible.

How does a site grow, then, if you can't build thousands of relationships per day? Well, you have to grow "organically"...eg, you get the early adopters, the early majority, the late majority...then, the laggards. What happens is those groups participate in circles of people who don't always fit the same techology adoption curve. So, one friend will end up "selling" his or her network on the concept...and, then it'll grow from there.

This is interesting for a few reasons:
1) If your success is built on *one* guy building the relationships...or woman...well, you can only build a few dozen per day.
2) If you need to grow exponentially, you also need evangelists who will bring their networks with them, and grow those relationships between your brand, and their followers, *for you*...because, the limit of the "whore" is so many clients per day.
3) If you can't understand the above...well, you can splurge on media spending only so much before you, too, will crash & burn (see perfspot for a great example of this).

What does this mean for those of us who, perhaps...understand? We build relationships, we share what matters...we lead, by example, building those relationships we can and serve as a blueprint for those who follow and who, like us, desire to build meaningful relationships to make the world a better place.
