At some point, I plan on doing a video. At Copenhagen, many less developed countries are bitching about the US, my home country. I've met the government officials many times, they all seem like they mean well and universally intelligent, well spoken and everything you wouldn't typically expect from a politician.

However, as a consultant, I've always advocated a singular approach to doing business, since moving to a less developed country, I've also noticed that this approach can easily be applied to government and international relations.

It goes like this: if you want something from somebody else, you have to have room to negotiate.

President of an LDC: "I'd like you to reduce your carbon emissions, you people are murderers and you'll soon kill my people."
Secretary of State Clinton: "I'd like you to stop stealing our movies, video games and software that cost our company thousands of hours and tens of millions of dollars to produce."

See how that goes?

Now, if you want to improve this situation...what do you do? Is the United States of America ASKING people to stop stealing? You betcha. In Europe, in the US, the crackdown has been underway for YEARS....you'd be an idiot not to be aware of how sensitive, how massive or how VITAL this issue is to the United States economy. You do know, our number one export is our culture :)

Personally, I'm thrilled to do something. Our businesses aren't obligated to do so, however one of them actively donates to non profits to help with poverty and climate change. The other one, I constantly ask companies, as a marketer, to position their firms as leaders in the green movement. This means something, as we have the ear of some of the world's largest media companies.

Yes, we're doing it for a profit...but, does that mean that we shouldn't advocate for doing the right thing? Nope, in fact, it's the BEST situation you can find when companies can do the right thing AND make a buck. I love it.

The next time I hear, read about OR find out that some idiot blasted MY country for doing something...

...I'm going to do my level best to stick it to them, air their dirty laundry AND fuck them over. Why? B/c if they are STEALING from my country, they're just as guilty of doing wrong as those who egregiously pollute...and I'll help the world know.
