At the end of 1999, you had dial up (perhaps slightly faster) on a desktop: what will 2019 look like?

First let me say that I love Seth Godin. If you haven't read his blog do so, as it's amazing, wonderful and makes me think daily. It makes me want to do better.

Next...the point of this writing. I aim to write more this year...and first, I wanted to say something that Seth inspired me to write down so I can remember it later. During 1995, I got internet at college...I didn't have broadband at home until 1999, via ADSL.

Fast foward to today, I have an Iphone 3G and when in the states, it's flipping unreal...everything I could do in 1999, online, I can do and even more on that Iphone...it's everywhere, it does things and it's essential to my life.

Now skip ahead to 2019: what will you have? Here's what I know:
1) Google (or another company) will know what you have done so well, and what others have done, that for 80% of the population, they will be able to tell you what to do *next*...this is huge.

...you will also want them to tell you what to do, as this will save you time, money and headache.

2) That gizmo in your pocket will be better than the laptop I'm working on now, have a projection, 3D, holographic screen and fold out, virtual keyboard that unrolls like a piece of paper and inflates, through some nifty technology I haven't read about yet.

...it should be Apple that does this, but, we can't count Microsoft, Nokia, Google or an unknown not to do this for us.

3) The identity, history and profile information will move from this gizmo to your home network to your car, your computer and your "phone" (aka pocket computer), helping you plan, organize and enjoy your life from daily activities, to self improvement and beyond...those who embrace this networked, digital lifestyle will have an efficiency advantage in their lifestyle that will propel small group companies who embrace this new life divide with those megacorps that haven't evolved to this level of efficiency...and there will be a sea change that is unparalleled in the past media upheaval of the pevious two decades.

....Google and Facebook are the two biggest contenders for this now....but, that doesn't' mean an upstart (or Apple, or Microsoft) couldn't do it.

4) Downloading your directions from your home network to your pocket network to your car network will enable you to skip driving and be productive in the car, en route from one destination to another. Eg, generally, you won't be the one driving, your car will drive on it's own.

...Google, Microsoft are expected to win big here.

5) China will be in the position the US is today as the undisputed world leader in politics, international relations and business.

...the US is the big loser here as our fat, unhealthy and uneducated nation descends into a prison state the likes of which many sci fi novels predict, but few believe, will ever happen in reality.
