This is where you come to get a better idea of who you're working with, who you hired, who you're thinking about hiring, or to answer the perennial question, "just what is he thinking?"

I realize that some of the language on my blog can be offensive to some: if that's you, don't read it.

The reason I don't promote this much? While I enjoy sharing my thoughts...I'm not trying to *promote* them. I'm giving people an opportunity, if they would like, to learn more about how I work, how I think, etc...

...what I'm not doing is trying to build buzz or awareness or drive traffic. To do those things, well, I'd have to start with a better more usable template at the least, right? I'd also have to do something about categories, tagging, etc so that things were truly "findable" on this site.

When the last one leaves, close the door, lockup and turn out the lights

Wis.dm never got back to me about our generous offer to help with a transfer of their members to FunAdvice that I put on their blog. Sigh.

People who belong to a community will not be happy when it goes away and I offered a logical ending: transfer that community, whole, to a site with compatible features, caring management and a bright enough future that the new members wouldn't feel like they were just boarding the titanic.

What did you want my phone number for?

Somebody showed up here looking for "jeremy goodrich phone number"...seriously, if you need my number...well, I'm not going to give it to you unless we're already in business. Just shoot me an email.

And no, this isn't the right domain to send me email via...there isn't a mail box here. So if you DO send to this domain, don't hold your breath waiting for a reply, as you won't get one.

What flattery, searches and referrals for my name both shot up in the last 24 hours

Look: this blog is here so you can get a better idea of who I am. What I do. How I work, etc.

Yes, some people have said "I can't believe Goodrich would do that" over the email thing. However...most that I've seen didn't leave a name, didn't have their resume online...

....and, I'd be willing to bet lunch at any restaurant in the world that *none* of the people who made, essentially, a bunch of disparaging remarks on my character have ever met me. I have two kids, a wonderful wife...and, my father in law is a vice president of a country.

Urbanspoon acquired, interesting stuff

I read today that urbanspoon was acquired by IAC. To me, this makes perfect sense and here's why. I read about it, hadn't used it, but a friend about a week *after* I read about the application on Iphone was using it in front of me & saying how awesome it was...well, shucks. He doesn't read all the latest internet hype, so, there must be something there.

Personally, I'd call it "real world value"...eg, the application makes sense and it provides a service that executes flawlessly against it's premise: use it to find food near you, and the app will figure out your location, for you.

Status check eight months later, did it pay off to hijack my brand?

Back in September, 2008 (roughly eight months ago now) some asshole decided to try to "anchor text spam" their site for our brand name. I just checked our stats & as their "quantified" I have a pretty good idea of their numbers:
Us - 3.7 million last month, this month, 4.7 million (wow).
Them - 1.7 million last month, this month, 1.7 million

Now when they did this, we were only slightly ahead of them...however, in the last eight months, we've opened a decided lead of this scumbag.

emarketing2 fucking spammers: I'm waiting on an apology

Idiots from emarketingsquared this morning spammed me...their provider is streamsend who enabled the shit. What puzzles me, is when I go to opt out, they have my corporate info (out of date by six months) with my home number...if you're an idiot, you're going to believe they had "permission" to send me email.

Fact is, this is bullshit spam based on crap data aggregation. I'll be waiting for my apology.

What if your revenue model negatively impacts your growth?

While spend too much time avoiding breakfast today (I'm eating as I consider what I'm writing, here)....well, I can't help but compare & contrast the writings of two fascinating books on business: From Good to Great, by Jim Collins, and Crossing the Chasm, by Geoffry Moore.

Spin, bullshit and the startups that fail

At one point, we worked with a company that was named a "Times Online 50 Startups to watch" from their magazine (and online edition of the same)...one of those went out of business which ended in a fire sale, nearly a year ago.

Rephrasing the issue: what's the starting point on the web again?

I'd rephrase: what's the starting point on the web?

Well, for some, it's still Yahoo...then, they plug in "google" into the search box to get to Google, *then* search...or MSN, because they don't know how to change their default page when they open up IE...and, likewise, they do a navigational search to arrive at Google.
